Bio
Nominated for "best single" for the the song "Pamela Hemingway" at the American Independent Music Awards as well as a Billboard songwriter nomination, singer/songwriter Willie D. is described by many as armed with the velvet sound of Sam Cooke, coupled with the soulfulness of John Legend and smoothness of Musiq Soulchild.
He has developed a sound uniquely his own by fusing together the essence of gospel, soul, funk and hip-hop. Bronx-born, South Carolina-bred, Willie D. started singing when he was barely old enough to speak writing his first song at the age of 5. Like many young people raised in a tough neighborhood, he endured a tumultuous childhood but fought to keep his childhood dream of a music career alive.
A family move to Mullins, South Carolina encouraged Willie D. to start a gospel group with brothers Tony, Attalla, David and Gregory soon they became one of the most sort-after bands in the South. With enough hustle to get noticed by one of the most successful indie labels in the United States, Dirrty Records, Davis soon shorten his name, sweetened his sound and was quickly credited as producer/singer/songwriter.
